I bought this unit to replace a Nuvi 350 that I gave to my kids as they didn't have a GPS. Didn't come with the AC adapter or USB, but was able to use ones from the 350. Have used only a few times, but seems easier to use. Especially like the absence of the "flip-up" antenna on the 350. Thought I could change the "voice" using USB and Garmingarage, but haven't been able to - maybe I'm not doing it right. But for the money, this is a very good unit for an old "technology challenged" guy.Paid over $300 for the 350, and got this for just over $100 on Amazon - arrived 3 days after I ordered - excellent service as usual.
Easily 5 stars for the price. Downloading map update did take a long time, but at least it was free. Reviewers should not be docking stars because it lacks features you're not paying for. It does what it's supposed to do extremly well. This is an easy recommendation. It was shipped very quickly from Amazon using free super saver shipping.
Speed Limit displayed over the Actual Speed is very helpful. Small size but I can read all the words it displays considering I do not have a perfect vision. It gave me the wrong information of the destination stating on the right when actually it was on the left side of the street.5. The name of the street you are currently on is not displayed. Less clutter on my dashboard. Out of the box, the GPS needs a map update.
Fast route and reroute time.5. Downloading a two-gigabyte map file is very time consuming. Its suction cup is a lot smaller than my Magellan Maestro.7. 3. For a little over a hundred bucks, you won't find a better GPS this great. Now, the Not so good things:1.
In city driving, it gave me three messages so as not to miss that turn.4. Example, I created a folder, "Stores" to put the addresses of Costco, BestBuy, Home Depot, RV World, etc.2. It does not give you the option of inputting the ZIP Code, you have to spell the City alphabetically.3. Like my previous Magellan Maestro 4040 at US$300, this GPS can categorize your "Favorites" addresses in separate files you created. I am a tech savvy and I found updating the Map very difficult. I am seeing everything I need in the "Points of Interest." I will be using this feature more often than I expected.6. You have to buy the wall charger if you need one, no softcase either for its screen protection.Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. Great for bike or foot navigation.8.
The Good things first:1. Add that to a not so User-Friendly website created a horrible experience. 2. 4. Just insert the Micro SD with your pictures and it will read automatically. No need to buy a high-end model. I am loving this feature. I am looking forward to its fun use.
It seems that the rechargeable Li-Ion battery lasts a long time. Slide show is cool too.9. Case squeaks when the volume is a bit loud, though I do not think the voice is distorted.6. I am now a new Garmin fan.
This is the nicest GPS I have found. It is nicer than the larger Garmin GPS unit my MIL has. It has great battery life, the display is awesome, and everything is correct.
My 3 year old Garmnin GPS started having battery problems. The Garmin 255 is exactly like my old one but better. Being familiar with GPS I looked and many different models and decided on the the 255 and I am glad I did.
